ABOUT ME

Hi, my Name is Himanshu Agarwal.I am an avid nature lover and photographer based out of New Delhi in North India.

I was born in a small town in the state of Uttar Pradesh, in North India .

Due to lack of good schools in my provincial  town , at the age of 6,I was sent to Welham , an elite boarding school in Dehradun a town located at  the foothills of the Himalayas .

As was the norm of all residential public schools , we had a midterm break of around 4-5 days ,where we were taken to some nearby  destination for experiencing the vibrant landscape and all that it had to offer in our very diverse country.. The trip served two purposes, firstly to get a break from strict school routine and secondly to explore India and endure physical hardship of village or rural life.

On  one of these trips, when I was about 10 years old, we were taken to Corbett National Park. It was my first experience of being close to nature and I was completely mesmerised . In those days we were allowed to walk around the rest house and swim in the river there. Tiger sighting was rare and one had to be careful about wild elephants and crocs in the river. To add to my school boy excitement  our kitchen was raided by a herd of wild elephants and they had to be chased away by gun shots.

During these school breaks we visited  several National Parks of North India and my love and respect for nature grew stronger and stronger.

As I quit my corporate life in 2012 and went on my own, the trips became more frequent. On every trip nature presented so many  incredible moments which got me hooked into capturing these memories on  my camera.

Over a period of time the desire of becoming better and better with my camera pushed me into investing into better gear like multiple cameras and lenses, attending seminars, training, webinars, taking youtube lessons and visiting various national and International parks of the country. As a country we are fortunate to have many  wildlife parks and sanctuaries with an abundance of species of birds and other wildlife which presented me a great opportunity and subjects to photograph.

Now a days I spend almost 5 -7 days a month in some or the other wildlife park in India and about 15-20 days in some International wildlife destination every year. The purpose is to capture natural history moments from my camera so that I can  create memories which would last me a lifetime and also enjoy the peace, solitude and clean air the sanctuaries have to offer.

Wildlife photography is very different from other forms of photography as you cannot control the environment or subject that you shoot. The process involves a lot of patience and skill as each moment the light, which is the most important ingredient of photography, changes and you have to adapt and change your settings according. The subjects may emerge from any direction and offer you only a split second to capture them in your camera. After hours and days of waiting they may not appear or when they appear you may not get the perfect shot but that does not bother me as I am happy and love the chance of being close to nature and the great challenge of getting the perfect shot which most of the time we miss.
